It allows you to use a 35mm SLR lens to produce a very DOF (shallow depth of field) look on your video image also to produce more Film Like images with your video camera. We build Static DOF Adapter and they are very affordable. Unfortunately, PRO 35mm adapters cost around $1200 and more! Not exactly considering many of us use cameras in that price range. I decided to make our own version - cheap home made adapter.
